Honoree

Walter Washington, MD
Surgeon, Private Practice
Surgeon, Homer G. Phillips Hospital

After Walter Washington, MD retired in 2001, many residents of St. Louis city’s northside wondered out aloud how any one person could provide the extensive, high quality medical care to which they had grown accustomed. When Dr. Washington joined Dr. Leslie Bond in the surgical practice both men recognized that the community desired and demanded more than just their surgical expertise. Dr. Washington responded by expanding his practice to include general medicine, in order to attend to the needs of his patients. That quality of selflessness and service is reflected and is immediately evident upon review of his life’s work.
