This public health lecture series is named in honor of the historic Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, the premier training ground for African American medical professionals. Although it closed its doors on August 17, 1979, we can learn much from the hospital’s history, presented by the very people who worked diligently to provide culturally sensitive care to the patients who so deeply trusted and loved them.

A documentary capturing the history of medical training of African-Americans at Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Dr. Earle U. Robinson Jr., a 2nd generation physician and alumnus, whose father was one of the first 27 interns to graduate from Homer G. Phillips, shares his personal story and the significance of the Homer G. Phillips hospital’s valuable part in African-American history.
Joyce Marie Fitzpatrick, Excutive Producer and Co-Director. Fitzpatrick is an award-winning Producer/Writer/Director and has worked for ABC, NBC, CW, UPN network, PBS, E! Entertainment, and Black Entertainment Television (BET). In 2001, Fitzpatrick launched her film production company, Flatcat Productions, LLC, in the city of Los Angeles.
Brian Shackelford, Co-Producer and Co-Director. Shackelford’s post production background includes over 600 hours of original, non-fiction programming for companies, such as 20th Century Fox, VH1, MTV and Ryan Seacrest Productions. In 2008, Shackelford created Tunnel Vizion Entertainment, a production and post production company specializing in giving lower budgeted projects the look and feel of high-end productions.
