ASN Receives $100,000 Grant to Support Health Equity Project

ASN recently received a $100,000 grant from the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), with support from the Doris Duke Foundation, to advance health equity through the “Encoding Equity: ASN eGFR ToolKit 2.0” project. A Kidney News Online article discusses how this work is part of the Encoding Equity in Clinical Research and Practice: Rethinking Race in Clinical Algorithms Alliance, a collaborative coalition led by CMSS and supported by ASN and 11 other organizations. The alliance aims to identify and correct the inappropriate use of race in clinical algorithms and improve equity in patient care. The ASN Health Care Justice Committee will lead the project to build on the original ASN eGFR Toolkit to address ongoing misconceptions about the removal of race from eGFR calculations. ASN will develop a communications toolkit to educate and engage nephrologists, other health professionals, and patients, ensuring messages are tailored, appropriately delivered, and responsive to each audience’s level of understanding.
