Who are the giants in your life that have inspired, assisted, encouraged, or set an example for your journey into medicine?
Dr. Bernal, an oncologist at Grady Hospital who showed me that the most difficult times in medicine can be filled with learning, laughter, and hope. I want patients to feel safe in my care and empowered to advocate for their health needs, which was displayed in all his visits with patients. I also want to shout out Dr. Butler who runs a Primary care clinic out in Brentwood with a nearly full black panel of patients. Primary care doesn’t get its recognition, but he knows how to motivate his patients and work with them to set goals to improve their health.
