Homer E. Nash, MD received his medical degree in June 1951, completed his internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, followed by a residency in Pediatrics at the Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Dr. Nash entered practice in July 1955 and practiced in north St. Louis for 46 years. Dr. Nash served as Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine. In 1998 Dr. Nash became the recipient of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s Distinguished Service Award. The award is given to staff members who demonstrate exemplary service and dedication in all areas of medical staff activities, including education, patient care, research, and leadership. A painting of Dr. Nash joins a distinguished group of physician leaders in the third floor auditorium of St. Louis Children’s Hospital. His sister, Dr. Helen Nash was the first African-American doctor to join the staff of St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1949, and the only woman among the first four African-American physicians invited to join the staff of the Washington University School of Medicine.
