 eries is named in honor of the historic Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. L
 ouis\, the premier training ground for African American medical professiona
 ls.  Although it closed its doors on August 17\, 1979\, we can learn much f
 rom the hospital's history\, presented by the very people who worked dilige
 ntly to provide culturally sensitive care to the patients who so deeply tru
 sted and loved them.</p><h2><strong>Guest speaker</strong></h2><p>Carol Cam
 p Yeakey\, is the Marshall S. Snow Professor of Arts & Sciences and the Fou
 nding Director of the interdisciplinary program in Urban Studies and its Ce
 nter on Urban Research and Public Policy at Washington University in St. Lo
 uis.  She also holds faculty appointments as Professor of Education\; of In
 ternational & Area Studies\; of American Culture Studies\; and\, of Urban S
 tudies & Public Policy and is a Faculty Scholar in the Institute for Public
  Health.  She received her PhD from Northwestern University in Social Polic
 y.</p><p>Her primary area of research is social welfare policy as said poli
 cy pertains to marginalized children\, young adults and families and the ne
 ighborhood contexts in which they live.  Her research examine the nexus bet
 ween the mal/distribution of human groups in dense urban spaces with refere
 nce to material resources and the consequential social\, political\, econom
 ic and cultural patterns which evolve as a result of the sufficiency or ins
 ufficiency of those resources.</p><h2><strong>Honoree: Beyond housing</stro
