 njamin\, MD\, is well-known as a health leader\, practitioner and administr
 ator. He currently serves\, since December 2002\, as the executive director
  of the American Public Health Association\, the nation's oldest and larges
 t organization of public health professionals. He is also a former Secretar
 y of Health for the State of Maryland.      <strong><br /></strong></p><p>D
 r. Benjamin is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and the U
 niversity of Illinois College of Medicine. He is board-certified in interna
 l medicine\, a Master of the American College of Physicians\, a fellow of t
 he National Academy of Public Administration\, a fellow emeritus of the Ame
 rican College of Emergency Physicians\, and a member of the National Academ
 y of Medicine. He serves on several non-profit boards such as Research!Amer
 ica\, the University of Maryland Medical System\, and the Reagan-Udall Foun
 dation.</p><p>He holds honorary fellowships in two British societies: the R
 oyal Society of Public Health\; and the Faculty of Public Health\, as well 
 as an honorary doctorate of science from the Meharry Medical College Nashvi
 lle Tennessee.  Dr. Benjamin is also a member of the National Infrastructur
 e Advisory Council\, a council that advises the President on how best to as
 sure the security of the nation’s critical infrastructure.</p><p><strong>Ho
 noree: Alive and Well</strong></p><p>Alive and Well STL is a community-wide
  effort focused on reducing the impact of <strong>stress and trauma</strong
 > on our health and well-being. <a href="http://www.aliveandwellstl.com/?pa
 ge_id=18">The research is clear</a>. Stress and traumatic experiences are m
 aking many of us sick and together are a leading cause of poor health outco
 mes.</p><p><strong>To become Alive and Well\, we need:</strong></p><ul><li 
 style="text-align: left\;">Informed\, supportive communities that recognize
  the impact of stress and trauma on people’s lives and their health.</li><l
 i style="text-align: left\;">Service providers who respond to individuals i
 n a way that acknowledges the impact of stress and trauma in their lives.</
 li><li style="text-align: left\;">Access to mental health services that rec
 ognize and address the impact of stress and trauma.</li><li style="text-ali
 gn: left\;">Communities and services that actively work to reduce exposure
